Level Up Your Storytelling – Turn Ideas Into Impact

March On! needed a way to keep its civil rights storytelling mission active between major Festival events, with content substantial enough to carry real historical weight rather than filler social posts. Nine distinct stories requires nine distinct research and production workflows, not a single template repeated nine times, so Black Digital conducted deep original research for each Unsung Heroes figure, including Barbara Jordan, Charles Richard Drew, C.T. Vivian, Ella Baker, Mary McLeod Bethune, Staceyann Chin, Vivian Malone, and Vivien Theodore Thomas, then built a full scene-by-scene storyboard for each one before production began. For the Charles Richard Drew story, for example, that meant a researched narrative arc covering his medical breakthroughs in blood plasma preservation, his “Blood for Britain” project delivering over 14,000 pints of plasma during WWII, his invention of the mobile blood bank, and his resignation from the Red Cross in protest of its segregated blood-donor policy, scripted scene by scene against archival and recreated footage. Once a storyboard was approved, a member of each honoree’s own family or organization recorded the narration audio, which Black Digital then built into a finished video with sourced and original footage, distributed through social, email, and web.
An organization built on preserving and sharing civil rights history needs its own content to reflect that same rigor. This series gave March On! a way to keep telling those stories year-round, not just during Festival week, and proved those stories could travel far beyond March On!’s own audience when the storytelling landed right.
