Website Redesign for the 2026 NSBE Convention

Working with the Black Digital team is honestly a highlight of my week. You make the process easy, collaborative, and fun while delivering high-quality work that moves NSBE forward.

Client Overview

The National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE) is a student-governed organization with more than 24,000 members across collegiate, professional, NSBE Jr., and international communities. NSBE’s mission is to increase the number of culturally responsible Black engineers who excel academically, succeed professionally, and positively impact the community.

The NSBE Annual Convention is the organization’s premier event, bringing together students, professionals, employers, sponsors, and chapter leaders each year. The 2026 convention took place March 18 through 22 in Baltimore, Maryland, drawing 12,908 total attendees.

Project Overview

Black Digital served as NSBE’s website design and development partner for the 2026 Annual Convention. The project included a full redesign of the convention website, integration of the 2026 brand identity, ongoing content management throughout the planning cycle, technical maintenance, and post-launch support through the close of the event.

The site launched in soft form in August 2025 and was updated continuously through March 2026 as programming, registration deadlines, speaker announcements, housing information, and event logistics evolved. This case study focuses specifically on the website scope. For the brand identity and visual creative system that informed the site’s design, see the related case study: Convention Brand Identity for the 2026 NSBE Convention.

Challenge

A national convention website serving nearly 13,000 attendees across five distinct audience segments is a significant information architecture challenge. Collegiate students, NSBE Jr. participants, professional and lifetime members, sponsors and exhibitors, and general attendees each come to the site with different needs, different questions, and different levels of familiarity with the event.

The site also needed to function as a living document. Content changed continuously over six months, including registration deadlines, speaker additions, hotel and housing updates, session descriptions, sponsor spotlights, and promotional downloads. Managing those updates cleanly, without breaking the visual design or disrupting the user experience, required a well-structured backend and clear content workflows.
In addition, the site needed to support a promotional and registration cycle tied to specific announcements and deadlines, meaning traffic spikes were expected and site performance during peak periods was a priority.

Our Approach

Black Digital began with a review and audit of the existing NSBE convention WordPress site structure, then developed a redesigned information architecture and navigation system built around multi-page organization with anchor points and a microsite-style layout. The 2026 convention branding and updated visual identity were integrated throughout, ensuring visual consistency between the site and all promotional materials.

The team established a phased content rollout beginning with the August 2025 soft launch, with content additions and updates continuing through convention week. A structured CMS workflow supported the NSBE communications team with backend access, admin and editor permissions, content formatting, and ongoing guidance.

Regular communication between the Black Digital web team and NSBE’s communications coordinator supported timely updates, revision cycles, and priority resolution throughout the project.
