Black Digital has supported The ELC’s scholarship program and Honors Symposium since 2017, and the relationship has grown considerably over that time. The ELC needed to reach Black undergraduate and graduate students at scale, improve the application journey, and then carry the scholarship story into an event that honored recipients and made the value of corporate partnership visible to sponsors, work that started small and expanded as the program’s reach grew.
What began as a single social media post announcing new scholars evolved into a dedicated scholarship microsite, an expansive scholar directory, and a comprehensive social campaign spanning outreach strategy for recruiting new partner schools, individual scholar announcements, and custom toolkits and assets built for each recognized student to announce themselves on social media, creating a moment of their own rather than a single organizational post. Black Digital captured onsite social content during the Honors Symposium itself, then supported the program after the event closed, extending its reach well past the day of the ceremony. Beyond the campaign work, Black Digital has helped The ELC ideate new program elements entirely, including a monthly newsletter and a webinar series. The awareness this built became self-reinforcing: as the scholarship program’s visibility grew, it attracted new corporate sponsorships, which in turn expanded the campaign’s scope further. Scholar recognitions are regularly shared under #ELCScholars, and individual ELC Scholars have been featured in their own campus news coverage at institutions across the country.
The recruitment effort and the recognition event reinforced each other instead of running as separate initiatives. This gave The ELC a scholarship program with recruitment reach and a signature event that makes the impact of corporate partnership visible.
