Level Up Your Storytelling – Turn Ideas Into Impact

Accokeek Foundation, steward of a stretch of Potomac River shoreline within Piscataway Park, needed a flexible identity system that could communicate its work clearly and stay consistent across the channels and applications its team uses, work that had to hold two identities at once: a nonprofit balancing historic and Indigenous preservation with environmental education and sustainable agriculture, without asking its audience to choose between them.
Black Digital conducted stakeholder discovery and positioning work, then built the identity around a central concept: Confluence, the meeting point of people, land, and history. The primary mark is a monogram built from the letter “A,” rendered so its forms read simultaneously as seeds, leaves, rivers, and topographic layers, tying the logo itself to the Foundation’s core relationships between people, water, and land. The palette carries its own story: Tidal Black for memory, Living Canopy green for life, Potomac Clay for stewardship, Meadow Stone for place, and Confluence Blue for connection. Brand guidelines built out four core themes, place, connection, stewardship, and continuity, along with a tone of voice defined as grounded, welcoming, hopeful, authentic, and generational, giving the Foundation’s team a consistent way to write and design across every channel and application, not just the logo itself.
A nonprofit doing layered work, historic and environmental, needs a brand that doesn’t force a choice between the two. This gave Accokeek Foundation one identity that holds both, grounded in the specific landscape and history the organization actually stewards rather than a generic nonprofit look. Black Digital has continued supporting the brand’s rollout into 2026, with more than 130 hours logged refining and extending the system since launch.
