2025 March On! Festival

Overview

March On! is a national celebration of storytelling, justice, and culture, honoring the legacy of the civil rights movement through film, art, music, and dialogue. Held annually in Washington, D.C., the Festival brings together filmmakers, activists, artists, students, and community leaders for a week of screenings, panels, and performances that highlight untold narratives and contemporary movements for equity. The 2025 Festival ran September 15–21 in Washington, D.C.

Black Digital has served as March On!’s long-term creative and digital partner—leading the rebrand that retired the legacy “March on Washington Film Festival” identity, designing and developing the Festival microsite, and delivering the complete creative suite for the 2025 season.

Challenge

March On! came to Black Digital with two interconnected needs. First, an identity that no longer reflected the Festival’s expanded scope and vision. The existing brand was rooted in a single historical reference point, while the Festival had grown into a multi-disciplinary platform for contemporary storytelling and activism. Second, a digital presence that had not kept pace. The previous microsite was outdated, difficult to navigate, and poorly organized—event schedules, film listings, and sponsor recognition were buried and hard to find.

For the 2025 Festival, the team also faced a compressed production schedule driven by shifting timelines, evolving programming, and content finalized near key deadlines. The introduction of paid sessions added new logistical and technical requirements. The scale of deliverables—spanning gala collateral, paid advertising, social media campaigns, signage, and more—demanded a creative partner that could move fast without sacrificing quality or consistency.

Black Digital’s work with March On! unfolded across three interconnected workstreams.

Rebrand

From Festival to Movement We led the comprehensive rebranding effort, developing a new brand story, visual identity system, and brand promise built to grow with the Festival. The visual system combined bold colors, contemporary typography, and vibrant imagery to create a fresh yet timeless aesthetic—honoring history while moving forward. Every touchpoint, from program books and social posts to event banners and presentations, was designed to reflect March On!’s mission of bridging past and future. For the 2024 Festival, themed WORD! Writers Who Move the Movement, our creative direction brought the power of narrative and justice to life across the full event experience.

Digital

A Microsite Built to Scale For the 2025 Festival, Black Digital designed and developed a modernized microsite that simplified the attendee experience and reflected the refreshed brand. We restructured site architecture around the Festival’s three core priorities—events, films, and sponsors—making it easier for visitors to explore the schedule, register for sessions, and access key details. We integrated Eventive to enable smooth, native ticketing directly within the site, a critical addition given the introduction of paid sessions. BugHerd was used throughout development to track feedback and manage revisions efficiently. The final site was built on a simplified CMS backend with reusable templates to make future festival cycles faster and easier to manage.

2025 Creative Suite & Social Campaigns Black Digital developed the full creative suite for the 2025 Festival—including the theme logo and branding, program books, sponsorship materials, flyers, paid advertising, social media campaigns, signage, and gala collateral. Working closely with the March On! team, we prioritized deliverables against a fast-moving timeline, maintained visual consistency across dozens of asset types, and established a creative foundation built to carry into future Festival years.

Impact & Results

During the Festival period (July 1–September 30, 2025), March On!’s social media performance saw significant growth across nearly every metric compared to the prior quarter:

  • Audience grew 21.7%, increasing from 19,631 to 23,893 followers
  • Net new followers rose 69.2%, jumping from 2,520 to 4,264
  • Impressions increased 74.3%, rising from 1.3M to 2.28M
  • Engagement volume grew 94.1%, increasing from 2,858 to 5,543 engagements
  • Video views reached 370,499, a 34.4% quarter-over-quarter increase

Beyond the numbers, the rebrand positioned March On! for national growth with a cohesive, professional identity. The modernized microsite reduced attendee friction and introduced a scalable digital infrastructure. Reusable CMS templates and an improved editorial workflow reduced production burden for future seasons. And the 2025 creative suite delivered a unified visual system that elevated the Festival experience from first impression to final gala.
