The Executive Leadership Council: Using year-round conference support to grow ELC's board readiness programming

The Executive Leadership Council chose Black Digital as its marketing agency for nonprofits, growing its Board Directors' Summit and Corporate Board Navigator program.

Overview

The ELC’s Board Directors’ Summit brings together board-ready corporate executives with private equity and public corporate representatives for structured interviews and networking around board seats, paired with the Corporate Board Navigator program, which prepares members for the realities of serving once they get there: governance, risk management, and relationship equity. Both needed marketing support that could hold the weight of the audience in the room while giving The ELC a consistent brand across every touchpoint, from save-the-date through onsite signage.

Black Digital provided full conference support services for the Summit and the Navigator program: building the overall event brand, then producing the individual assets across every platform that brand needed to show up on, print and digital signage, presentation decks, social media coverage during the event, and post-event recap content. The Summit itself has grown into a two-day format, panels and data presentations on day one, structured board-seat interviews on day two, with recent years centering on how boards govern emerging challenges like AI oversight; the 2025 Summit’s sessions on trust, activism, and AI governance drew active discussion from sponsors and attendees alike on LinkedIn. The Corporate Board Navigator program runs alongside it, welcoming new cohorts each year with sessions led by sitting directors and outside partners on the practical work of serving on a board, not just getting onto one.

Results

  • 100+ board-ready executives attended the 2025 Summit (December 11–12, Arlington, VA)
  • 80 members welcomed into the Corporate Board Navigator program by ELC Board Chair Shelley Stewart Jr.
  • Sponsor-driven programming, including Diligent Institute research on AI governance in the boardroom, generated visible engagement and LinkedIn coverage from attendees and partners

A board-ready audience needs marketing that respects the stakes of the room they’re walking into. This program gave The ELC a consistent brand across its Summit and Navigator programming, growing alongside the boardroom issues, like AI governance, that its members are increasingly expected to lead on.
