Overview:

The mission of the Staten Island Children’s Museum is to nurture the creativity and curiosity natural to all children, to recognize and celebrate different learning styles, and to demonstrate vividly that learning can be exciting and fun.

As a destination, the Staten Island Children’s Museum offers 40,000 square feet of interactive exhibits as well as a 4-acre East Meadow, and a picnic and performance pavilion on the grounds of the Snug Harbor Cultural Center & Botanical Gardens.

Founded by a group of parents in 1974, the museum opened in 1976 in a small rented storefront with one exhibit and program. A series of “hands-on, minds-on” exhibitions followed about history, the natural sciences and fine arts.
Today, the Children’s Museum has 12 hands-on exhibits, 10 inside and 2 outside. They offer interactive art and STEAM programs onsite for daily visitors, visiting school groups, camps, and birthday parties; and offsite in schools, after school programs, community centers and at community events.

THE SOLUTION:

Their website design and technology was dated. It did not convey important information in an efficient manner and included an extensive use of accordions to display large amounts of data. It wasn’t easy to update and was very static.

THE RESULTS:

We created a responsive solution that was very clean, and the information was concise and to the point. We introduced new features, such as sliders, and designed the pages for a lot of information to be viewed in a clean way. We worked with their team and taught them how to make edits in house. We created new elements, such as a dynamic calendar, dynamic business hour display, SEO optimization, and incorporated video and blogging features.
